TFIA would like you to bring to your attention an amazing industry resource - RMIT's Textile Testing Services - being offered by TFIA Members RMIT University here in Melbourne. As a NATA accredited, independent laboratory, RMIT Textile Testing Services provides professional, independent and certified assessment of textiles.
RMIT'S TEXTILE TESTING SERVICES
Established in 1993, RMIT Textile Testing Services is a NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia) accredited laboratory and well placed as a first choice testing facility, based at RMIT University’s School of Fashion and Textiles in Brunswick, Victoria.
The testing laboratories at Brunswick are linked with RMIT’s Centre for Advanced Materials and Performance Textiles (CAMPT), offering a unique opportunity for the industry to initiate commercial testing and/or applied research. CAMPT is known as a leading textile research center and the School of Fashion and Textiles likewise has a strong reputation for excellence in academic achievement.
The team of five staff have a combined experience of over 120 years. Their knowledge spans across; comfort testing (breathability), flammability, moisture management and UV exposure for colourfastness or degradation properties, in addition to the regular colourfastness and physical performance testing. The team also offer specialised expertise in Children’s nightwear and limited daywear assessment along with associated flammability testing.

MEET TRUDIE ORCHARD
Trudie Orchard is your first point of contact at RMIT Textile Testing Services. As manager of the NATA accredited commercial laboratory, Trudie has developed and implemented testing on an incredible range of products including: carpets, fire fighters uniforms, defence armour and apparel, make-up sponges, nappies, hospitality and laundry textiles and all forms of apparel.
Commencing her career as a technician testing Woolmark goods with the New Zealand Wool Board, Trudie has held various technical and management roles at Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand (WRONZ), Feltex Woven Carpets and the Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA) prior to joining RMIT as Textile Testing Manager in 2003.
Trudie has since gone on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Manufacturing Operations (Textiles) and was a recipient of Skills Victoria (TAFE/Veneto) ISS Fellowship to study the European regulations for textile apparel labeling. In addition as LTI she is a member of the Textile Institute, a number of Standards Australia Textile committees and Technical Assessor for NATA.
