AFC at Paris Fashion Week 2018

Early in October, on the last day of Paris Fashion Week, a diverse group from the Australian and French fashion industries collected at the Australian Embassy in Paris, generously hosted by Ambassador Brendan Berne.

It was a great opportunity to talk about the importance of Paris to growth of many Australian designers and the business network that reaches out from Paris with great influence around the world.

Celebrating Australian innovation and creation, our CEO, David Giles-Kaye was joined by Edwina McCann, Editor in Cheif at Vogue Australia, actors Joel Edgerton and Melissa George, fashion designers Toni Maticevski and Dion Lee, representatives from The Woolmark Company and more.

Ambassador Brendan Berne welcomed the Australian fashion industry, increasingly flourishing, and their presence in France.

Our CEO also gave a few words on the AFC’s strategic direction when it comes to export, the importance of international relationships and collaborations, and plans for a consistent AFC presence at Paris Fashion Weeks in the years to come.

“The Australian Fashion Council’s industry growth strategy is built on companies being excellent in business, on showing consistent professionalism and is driven and differentiated by great and inspiring design.

Our international strategy is underpinned by collaboration. At the AFC, we are in the process of developing a number of key international partnerships that will help us achieve this, most of whom are headquartered here in Paris.  These are companies and people that have immense experience in working with successful global fashion brands and who will bring this to our industry.

Our strategy will see a consistent AFC presence at Paris Fashion Weeks in the years to come, starting in 2019, with a focus on supporting our established designers, and, we will be more integrated into the international fashion community, through our partnerships and our activities.”

Australian Fashion Council CEO, David Giles-Kaye

Stay tuned as we begin to unfold plans for AFC’s Designers Abroad program for 2019. The AFC is working hard to support all kinds of export, both overseas and here at home. As with all of our activities, our effectiveness relies on you letting us know your needs. If export is on the cards for your business in 2019, let us know and fill in the survey via the link below.
