MAKERS MEETING | SAMPLE ROOM
Last month The Australian Fashion Council and Sample Room partnered to offer members another opportunity to connect and learn what our industry has to offer through our makers meeting series. Thanks to the AFC members who joined us and to Sample Room for opening their doors! Take a peek at some of the action below.
Hosted by Julia Van Der Sommen, owner and head sample maker of the Sample Room, the group enjoyed a tour of the Sample Room space, discovering and learning about her processes, meeting her team and how they work together to produce quality prototypes, learning more about their mentoring program for start-up labels and having an open discussion about the importance and need for more technical specialists in the Australian fashion industry.
Located in East Brunswick, Melbourne, Sample Room is one of the few Australian businesses set up to offer a complete pattern-making, sampling and product development service for small-scale fashion labels. Julia is passionate about educating the fashion industry, both new and established designers, on how to realign their development and manufacturing processes for smarter and more cost effective outcomes.
AFC Makers Meetings
Held throughout the year, the Makers Meeting series takes a group of AFC Members on a guided tour of different industry factories and farms. The goal is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and to foster new relationships, encouraging greater collaboration across the industry.
The Sample Room is a fashion technical service business to the fashion industry all over Australia which works with over 500 fashion Label's, developing their design ideas into manufacturing ready prototypes.
