Guest speaker, Timothy Coghlan, an Independent Consultant focused on the Chinese retail and consumer sector and Chair of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in China, Retail and E-commerce Working Group will be guiding you through:

GUEST SPEAKER | TIMOTHY COGHLAN

Based in Beijing, Timothy Coghlan is an Independent Consultant focused on the Chinese retail and consumer sector and he serves as the Chair of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in China, Retail and E-commerce Working Group.

Timothy has advised the world’s most iconic fashion and luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada and others on their China entry, expansion and retail store strategies including the opening of several flagship stores for these brands. He also has vast experience working with the Chinese Government and State Owned Enterprises for the master planning and development of shopping malls across China including Tianjin Galaxy Mall, Sanya China Duty Free Mall, Xiamen Airport plus others.

In 2012 Timothy founded the Australia-China Fashion Alliance project (ACFA) that utilises “fashion diplomacy” to build commercial opportunities for Australia’s fashion and retail brands in China. ACFA has been supported by DFAT’s Australia China Council, Austrade, Tourism Australia and State Governments for China fashion and retail engagement activities. In February 2016, ACFA held the first ever “China Fashion & Retail Forum” in Sydney and in 2014 Timothy was awarded the Australia-China Achievement Award for Entrepreneurship for his work on ACFA.

Timothy has an extensive global network of fashion and luxury industry CEOs, designers and professionals, and is a regular speaker and media commentator on the China retail sector. His articles have been featured on The Business of Fashion, Fashion & Mash, Tech in Asia, Technode, Mao Suit and the Journal of Australia-China Affairs.

Timothy graduated from the Australian National University with degrees in both Economics and East Asian Studies. He speaks Mandarin and Japanese.

Last month the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) and the Australia China Fashion Alliance (ACFA) hosted the China Fashion & Retail Forum in Sydney at the Museum of Applied Arts and Science (Powerhouse). The full day Forum was the first major event in Australia dedicated to helping the Australian Fashion and Retail industry access the China market. Industry speakers included TFIA’s own Dave Giles-Kaye and Editor of Vogue China, Angelica Cheung.
