Funding for Women's Leadership Development
Women & Leadership Australia is administering a national initiative to support the development of female leaders across Australia’s fashion and beauty sector. The initiative is providing women with grants of between $3,000 and $8,000 to enable participation in a range of leadership development programs.

In collaboration with McKinsey & Company, we were delighted to last week host an industry leaders’ reception to launch The State of Fashion 2018 report in Australia. Joined by MC Clare Press, Sustainability Editor-at-Large at Vogue Australia, and guest speaker Jack Calhoun, Senior Adviser at McKinsey & Company, the evening saw Jack share key insights on the trends shaping the global fashion industry in 2018, as well as how the Australian industry stacks up.
Redress Design Award 2018!
Following intense rounds of preliminary judging, the 30 semi-finalists for the Redress Design Award 2018 have been unveiled. Organised by Hong Kong-based environmental NGO Redress, this year’s competition has been the toughest cycle yet since the launch of the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition in 2011. Reviewing a record number of applications from 56 regions, the expert judging panels scored the applicants based on creativity, originality, sustainability and market viability in order to cut hundreds of ambitious young sustainable designers down to just 30, including 1 Australian designer; Tess Whitfort from Boxhill Institute!

Circular Fashion | What Innovations can we Look to?
The natural resources that fashion designers have relied on for generations have depleted at an exponential rate over the past 15 years. In reality, we’re potentially facing complete exhaustion of most natural resources by 2030. In response, it’s been announced that Australia’s first, industry only, Circular Fashion Conference will take place in Sydney Australia on 22 March 2018.

This research focuses on how negative emotions may be alleviated through intelligent materials with the focus group being Creative Entrepreneurs in the Textile and Fashion industry in their early stages of their entrepreneurship. Having previously worked as a textile/graphic designer herself, Rashmita Bardalai, the PhD researcher at RMIT University, can empathise with some of the issues faced by creative entrepreneurs in this industry.
