Kimbralou
Kimbralou is a sustainable fashion brand that salvages then customises thrifted pieces to create exclusive designs underpinned by social and political awareness. The designs show shift towards nonbInary fashion in a circular economy

The sustainable behaviours underpinning kimbralou are the actions of salvaging, recycling, reassembling for reuse, reuse as is, achieving longevity of use, sharing for maximal use, creating heirloom pieces and active repair of misuse.

The design process starts with salvaging discarded textiles. At the pre salvaging phase, the discarded textiles have to pass a strict criteria for being ‘next level’ in their virgin state.

To ultimately achieve a customised exclusive piece, the principles of reusing and reassembling is applied. The customised piece is then reintroduced into the garment life cycle as a one of one statement design.

kimbralou pieces are customised to have the one of a kind and fierce edge guarantee, with the ultimate objective of minimising disposal potential by the owner.

There has been validating feedback that owning a kimbralou piece evokes positive comments from others and usually enquiry as to where to buy the piece follows. As all kimbralou pieces are guaranteed to be one of a kind, the ‘owner’ has satisfaction knowing they are ‘owning’ a desired piece that no one else can ‘own’.

The pieces are for rule breakers. Spirit lightness and fun emanates from the kimbralou pieces as style is redefined as undefined.

Essentially kimbralou has a validated history of going beyond presenting superficial looks and instead favours showcasing deeper values pivoting around sustainable inclusiveness in diversity. In fact the pieces are all as unique as every human on earth
who tend to select them to express their freedoms, sexuality or individuality.

A very powerful validation of the brands value system outcomes occurred when it was announced, by Vogue, as the Afterpay Australian Fashion Week ‘22 winner of the Inclusive by Design Program. This accolade was given after a panel of esteemed fashion industry leaders scrutinised the physical kimbralou pieces and explored for evidence of brand value objectives and outcomes.

Ultimately, the brand has swiftly emerged as a validated brand that consistently delivers
fabulous examples of how once discarded fashion and haberdashery items can be taken apart and reassembled into a statement piece.

The common denominator underpinning the majority of kimbralou is to creatively restore to prolong garment life in the context of slow fashion.
