Melissa and Lauren hail from the Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, and Bundjalung tribes of Australia’s East Coast, often referred to as “Saltwater Country.” For both mother and daughter, their art has been a powerful medium for healing intergenerational trauma.Miimi and Jiinda has collaborated with some iconic Australian brands such as Adairs, SEED and Jurlique, and their work has been featured on Channel 9’s, The Block, Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. Passionate about their Culture, Country and giving back, Melissa and Lauren are actively involved in community and supporting local efforts to preserve heritage and language also shown through their literacy and writing projects.

We are a fashion couture house, we create individual custom-made bridal and evening gowns for clients.
We also stock our own brand of ready-to-wear evening gowns.

One aspect that makes us different from other manufacturers is that we come from a bespoke, detail orientated, couture background. We cater especially for brands who require lower volumes, and have an interest in the environmental impact of their business. We are clothing manufacturers with a difference, providing trafficking survivors and other at risk and vulnerable workers in Cambodia with training, support and safe employment in our ethical and sustainable factory.
We aim to disrupt the global clothing manufacturing model where thousands of workers are forced into unsafe, overcrowded workplaces to mass produce low quality garments, worn for a season and tossed.
This large scale “take make discard” model is not ethical for workers, nor sustainable for the planet. Instead, we are creating a network of small, localised digitally enabled sewing hubs with 30-50 workers each supporting a team of outworkers sewing from home in neighbouring communities. All producing quality garments, adopting good environmental practices and paying workers a living wage.
Our subsidiary, Avodah Manufacturing (Cambodia) works with Cambodian social justice and rescue agencies who rescue women from trafficking and exploitation and provide counselling, education and health support. When these women are ready to be reintegrated into the community and take on full time employment, they require training and a nurturing, supportive work environment.
