FOMA 2019 | Sydney & Melbourne

Fashions of Multicultural Australia (FOMA) is a first-ever national initiative that will integrate cultures, generate trade opportunities, and foster social cohesion through the universally binding industry that is fashion. The AFC is excited to partner with FOMA to highlight the multicultural landscape of Australian fashion.

SYDNEY | MARCH 1

Designer & Embassy Exhibit

The FOMA Designer and Embassy Exhibit will provide a unique opportunity to purchase directly from designers, and gain key insights into the many diverse communities that comprise Australia’s multicultural landscape. They will feature some fantastic examples of current international fashion trends, as well as products and items that are of cultural and commercial significance to the partaking foreign embassies and consulates. The AFC will also have a space at the exhibit, so come down and say hi!

Runway Showcase

Join Jeremy Fernandez, ABC News Journalist & Presenter and Charlotte Smith, Fashion Anthropologist as your Master of Ceremonies at the FOMA 2019 Runway Showcase. Experience a spectacular multicultural runway showcase, providing audiences with a colourful range of couture, designs, stories, and perspectives from emerging designers from across Australia and the globe. AFC Members Tamara Leacock (REMUSE), Katya Komarova and Wendy Scully will also feature on the runway.

MELBOURNE | MARCH 9 - 10

In collaboration with FOMA, The Social Studio 10 Year Retrospective will celebrate the studio’s achievements and supporters over the years through an exhibition and panel series.

The Social Studio will showcase a series of garments designed in collaboration with iconic Australian designers that have supported the studio over the past decade, alongside international designers from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds presented by FOMA. The panel series will enable rich discussions around the ever-expanding relationship between fashion, community, culture and ethics.
