Presented by the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation (DAAFF), The Australian Indigenous Fashion Showcase is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, art and creativity through fashion at the 25th anniversary of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.

This runway event will be held on Friday, 15 May 2020, and will bring together collections from five of Australia’s leading First Nations designers. It is a unique opportunity for the Australian and international fashion community to connect to the world’s oldest living culture.
The Australian Indigenous Fashion Showcase has grown out of the success of the Country to Couture fashion runway event that is held every August as part of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) program. Country to Couture is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander textiles and fashion design and is a contemporary way of cultural storytelling, and sharing knowledge.
The Australian Indigenous Fashion Showcase will provide a vibrant platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers to share their art, design, and culture with the international fashion community. DAAFF will also be providing opportunities for Indigenous stylists, creatives, and fashion industry professionals to contribute to producing and managing the show.

Experience the rich diversity of artworks from over 70 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community Art Centres at the 14th Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair. This event charts the future of the vibrant and evolving Indigenous art scene, and supports the ethical purchasing of Indigenous art. Audiences will experience cultures from Australia’s most remote desert and coastal regions, to rural and urban communities, as well as an extensive program of traditional dancing and artist workshops, fashion, children's activities, Indigenous food experiences, and short films.
DAAF is compliments the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), National Indigenous Music Awards , Salon des Refusés and the Garma Festival, which are held over the same week in Darwin. Together, these prestigious events mark the most significant national festival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts in the world. DAAF is an umbrella event of the Darwin Festival.
Country to Couture celebrates the marriage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary fine art and high-end fashion. The success of the textile design movement in remote Indigenous communities has led to exciting collaborations with well known Australian designers. The 5th Country to Couture will be held on the 4 August 2020 at the Darwin Convention Centre.

The National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFAs) will be inaugurated in 2020. The NIFAs have been developed to provide a vibrant and exciting platform to celebrate the innovation, diversity and ethical practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and fashion designers, whilst contributing to the capacity building of the sector.
