The National Wool Museum will host a major new biennial Design Festival in 2020 – inviting fashion designers, makers and artists to make items of headwear, neckwear (including scarves), bodywear or footwear and complete looks – which respond to the Festival’s 2020 theme of “Design for the Future: Sustainable and Ethical Textiles and Fashion.”

We’re thrilled to be supporting the National Wool Museum’s We The Makers Design Festival in 2020! With a designer showcase and marketplace, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Have a look over the details below!

WE THE MAKERS DESIGN FESTIVAL 2020

The National Wool Museum will host a major new biennial Design Festival in 2020 – inviting fashion designers, makers and artists to make items of headwear, neckwear (including scarves), bodywear or footwear and complete looks – which respond to the Festival’s 2020 theme of “Design for the Future: Sustainable and Ethical Textiles and Fashion.” 

DESIGNER SHOWCASE

A “Designer Showcase” will feature the work of 20 top professional and emerging fashion designers from across Australia and around the world - whose work also responds to the Festival’s theme. Designers are to submit complete ‘looks’ with the best entry of the showcase winning a $10,000 cash prize, with further cash prizes and professional development awards to be announced later in 2019.

KEY DATES

Entries open: 25 November 2019

Entries close: 2 March 2020

First round of judging of online entries: 9 March 2020

Top 20 Entrants Notified: 16 March 2020

MAKERS MARKETPLACE

Makers are invited to enter the “Makers Marketplace” by making an item of headwear, neckwear (including scarves), bodywear or footwear that responds to the Festival’s theme. Items submitted can be sold, with all entries to fit into one of the following seven categories: wool, innovation, modern, tradition, storyline, emerging maker (13 – 18 years), and young maker (12 years and under). A series of category awards and cash prizes will also be announced in late 2019.

Entries open & accepted: 1 February 2020

Entries close: 1 April 2020
