Founded by Yuwaalaraay designer Julie Shaw, MAARA Collective brings Australian Indigenous art, culture and storytelling into contemporary fashion through a deeply collaborative approach to design.

MAARA Collective is an Australian ready-to-wear label founded in 2019 by Yuwaalaraay designer and Creative Director Julie Shaw. The brand celebrates Australian Indigenous art, culture and storytelling through contemporary fashion, embracing a deeply collaborative approach to design.

The word MAARA means ‘hands’ in the Yuwaalaraay and Gamilaroi languages of northern New South Wales, reflecting the many hands involved in bringing each piece to life, from storytellers and artists to fibre growers and garment makers.

Inspired by the land, people and stories of Australia, MAARA creates inclusive fashion grounded in cultural connection and collaboration. The award-winning label has been recognised in Australia and internationally, including through the National Indigenous Fashion Awards, Australian Fashion Laureate, Marie Claire Designer of the Year and the IDA International Design Awards. MAARA also supports the next generation of Indigenous fashion talent through local programs and internships.
